Changes in MPP Program

The good news for immigrants has to do with a program called MPP: Migrant Protection Protocols.
The Trump administration operated under this program. If an immigrant came and asked for asylumThe program required them to wait in Mexico during the asylum process. More than 70,000 asylum seekers have been registered and had to wait in Mexico. 

The administration of President Joe Biden began to bring in those people who had pending proceedings, that is, who were awaiting hearings in Immigration Court. He gave them parole (temporary residence permit) to be able to enter the U.S. legally, and to be able to continue their asylum proceedings in Immigration Court while waiting inside the country. 
 
Today, they're taking it even further, they're going to include the tens of thousands of people who have had their cases denied, who didn't show up, or who have a final order of deportationbecause they suffered the legal harm of being involved in this MPP program. 

What is legal damage? People who suffered legal harm did not have access to family members and lawyers. In many cases the court limited the rights of immigrants to defend themselves.
Currently, only 11,000 people have been brought in with the parole, since that was what they had in process pending with the Court of First Instance.nmigration.
