This comes as a surprise to all of us because during an administration that is pro-immigrant, to have anti-immigrant measures is really something for us to pause and explain.

Anti-immigrant measures

Title 42: The Biden administration is arguing to defend and keep Title 42 alive at the border, which allows it to occupy COVID as a linchpin, an excuse to turn away and deport thousands and thousands of people. That is simply a measure against immigrants.

2: Fights against lawsuits: The administration is fighting lawsuits over the separation of families. There are families who were separated at the border for months or years and are now seeking compensation from the government. President Biden's administration is fighting tooth and nail against those lawsuits.

3. Right to bail: We had another lawsuit in the Supreme Court, in which the current administration is fighting against the right to bond for immigrants who have been in detention centers for more than six months. In other words, the administration does not want them to have the right to request a bond if they are detained for more than six months.

4. TPS: Last year they argued and won in the Supreme Court the lawsuit for the TPS did not count as legal entry. They closed the doors to many immigrants so that they could become residents.

5. Detention Centers: The worst measure against immigrants is what is happening in the Detention Centers. The number of people detained at the end of the Trump administration was 15 thousand, now it is over 21 thousand. There was an increase of over 6 thousand people, almost a 50%. The reason this is problematic is because it has contributed to an increase of over 625 % in COVID cases in immigrants in Detention Centers. Instead of thinking about releasing immigrants in shackles and monitoring them electronically, they are increasing the number of people in detention.

These five anti-immigrant measures are troubling and troubling. They basically motivate us as immigrant advocates to look for solutions, legalize our people and take action, because we see little by little that this administration is taking more and more anti-immigrant measures.
