A new scam and deception by Jasmine Moawad, a 45 year old Bolivian woman who was arrested in Gainesville for scamming people by claiming to be a lawyer. When they complained to her and threatened her with a complaint or asked for their money back, she told them that she was going to call Immigration, that she was going to pick them up at their house and that they were going to be deported.

This type of threats are very common. That is why we must always be careful with these people, who in the end, end up hurting us, and a lot.

What else is common among scammers?

Below I will detail what many scammers commonly do or ask for. As lawyers, we know about these issues and we want you to avoid these situations, or to prevent them.

• Wanting to charge you an exaggerated amount of money: if a "lawyer" asks you for $20,000 or $30,000, you must know that there is something wrong.
• Make the most money: you're guaranteed results, but that's the signal to run away.
• Special favors at Immigration: if they promise you miracles with Immigration in record time, chances are they are lying to you.
• They do not give you explanations: if they do not explain, legally, what they are going to do for you, it is because they have no legal basis behind it. Don't trust them.
