The government of the united States has confirmed the end of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Honduras and Nicaragua, ending the TPS for more than 76,000 hondurans, and nicaraguans. As of July 8, 2025, will begin to run a 60-day deadline for the end of the benefits as the work permit, travel permit and protection from deportation. This news has generated concern in thousands of families, but it can also represent an opportunity to find a permanent solution.
Already happened with Venezuela and tried Haiti, although in this latter case, the federal courts blocked temporarily decision. For this reason, it is also expected a possible blockage in court to Honduras and Nicaragua. However, you cannot rely on this possibility: now more than ever is the time to act quickly and strategy.
Many beneficiaries of TPS have traveled with the travel permit, which means that they have a legal entry to the country.
This opens the door to apply for permanent residence through a son, a u.s. citizen, 21 years of age or spouse is a u.s. citizen. The most important thing: you can do all the processing inside the country, without punishment or to forgive, or need to leave the us territory.
Another alternative is through a petition of the employer under the category 245(i), if traveled with the travel permit. This pathway also allows for adjustment of status within the U.S. without facing sanctions migration.
This may be the turning point for moving from the TPS to the permanent residence. For many, the termination of the TPS will be the push I needed to begin the process toward a final solution.
